September 24, 2025New SDI Release, 2025.10.2527
October 8, 2025After 29 years of dedicated service, we announce the upcoming retirement of Bill Hawkins, who will be leaving Synergex on October 10, 2025. Bill has had a huge impact on our organization and our customers, and while we’re sad to see him go, we’re deeply grateful for everything he has contributed.
A journey of innovation and leadership
Bill’s Synergex career began in October 1996, when he joined as director of IT. He quickly made his mark by helping adopt the SOFTRAX accounting system and building our homegrown Interaction call management system. In 1999, he moved into our Professional Services Group (PSG), where he would go on to spend the majority of his career. Along the way, Bill also led the Synergy support team before returning to PSG to focus on helping customers modernize and innovate.
Bill’s earlier experience prepared him well for the challenges ahead. Before joining Synergex, he spent 16 years at MCS Ltd. in the UK, where he grew from a programmer working on CP/M microcomputers to programming manager. He was instrumental in adopting new versions of DBL and UI Toolkit, even spending time at Synergex (then Digital Information Systems Corporation, or DISC) offices to help shape early adoption efforts.
Architecting the future
In 2012, Bill became the architect for our RCC software, a role in which he will leave a lasting legacy. He guided RCC’s move from Unix to Windows, standardized versions across customers, and enhanced the UI. Beyond technical improvements, he supported RCC customers with ongoing maintenance, custom development, and modernization initiatives.
In March 2023, Bill was promoted to solutions architect in PSG, where he provided both pre- and post-sales leadership on technical design, custom software development, and application support projects. He became a trusted consultant for customers in the timeshare vertical, lauded for his ability to communicate clearly with all stakeholders, troubleshoot issues quickly, and deliver solutions in real time. One customer recently wrote, “[Bill] was outstanding. His quick thinking and precise solution helped us resolve this critical P1 issue efficiently. Please extend our sincere appreciation for his support and expertise.”
Mentorship and legacy
One of Bill’s most significant contributions has been his role as a mentor, particularly in training others in DBL and RCC. His commitment to transferring knowledge ensures the skills and expertise he cultivated over decades will live on with future generations of developers and consultants.
Beyond the office
Outside of work, Bill has always brought the same passion and creativity to his hobbies. Whether perfecting his Christmas light show, playing role-playing games (both tabletop and computer), photographing the outdoors, or recently picking up pickleball, Bill approaches life with enthusiasm.
Thank you, Bill
Bill’s career has been defined by technical excellence, leadership, and generosity in sharing knowledge. His dedication has earned him the trust and admiration of colleagues and customers alike. While we’ll certainly miss his presence at Synergex, we celebrate his remarkable career and wish him all the best in retirement.
Please join us in congratulating Bill on an incredible 29 years with Synergex and in wishing him joy and fulfillment in the years ahead!
