What is REV11 licensing?
REV11 licensing is the current revision of Synergy/DE’s licensing system. It runs on Windows and Unix and supports Synergy/DE 9.3.1 – 10.3.3 as well as Synergy/DE 11. The primary features of REV11 licensing are automatic updates of Synergy/DE product keys and the ability to use new Synergy/DE versions before the keys are updated. And you don’t need to upgrade to Synergy/DE 11 to take advantage of these features: on Synergy/DE 9.3.1–10.3.3 you can install the REV11 licensing upgrade package.
How does REV11 licensing work?
Once REV11 licensing is installed on your system (whether with the licensing upgrade package or Synergy/DE 11), License Manager sends your licensee name and current registration string to the Synergy License Web Service, where the information is used to locate the license for your system. Then, product keys are generated, sent back to your machine, and automatically installed.
From then on, License Manager on your system will regularly poll the Synergy License Web Service to check for new product keys (and other license data). When you add users or products—or when you renew your license—License Manager will detect the change the next time it polls, download the new keys, and update them on your system. You can optionally manually check for and download new keys at any time by using lmu or the Synergy Configuration Program to synchronize your license data with the Synergy License Web Service.
What about version upgrades?
With REV11 licensing, when you upgrade to a new major Synergy/DE version (e.g., from 10 to 11), you can immediately run the newer software due to REV11’s “fuzzy matching” feature. Also, License Manager on your system will send notification of the upgrade to the Synergy License Web Service, which informs Synergex Customer Service. After they process the upgrade, License Manager will automatically update the product keys on your system the next time it polls.
In addition, you no longer need to maintain product keys for multiple Synergy/DE versions on your license server. You can install keys for the highest version, and REV11 licensing will support all your Synergy/DE versions.
