The 2016 Synergy DevPartner Conference: "Synergy rocks!"

See what attendees had to say about the recent conference

Synergex’s 30th annual developer conference wrapped up on May 27th in Washington, D.C. It was another great conference, as indicated by the attendees’ enthusiastic survey responses. Over five action-packed days, conference attendees learned all about the latest features in Synergy/DE, including Synergy/DE 10.3.3, which debuted at the conference. Attendees were also the first to try out the long-awaited features of the new Resource Center Community, which was also introduced at the conference. Hands-on workshops and enlightening customer demos illustrated the new technologies, and the keynote sessions supplemented educational content with industry-relevant topics. “Attendees had numerous opportunities to network with Synergex staff and with other Synergy/DE developers from around the world. You can read the attendee testimonials on the conference web site.

For security compliance, update to current Synergy/DE version

If your company’s applications require PCI or HIPAA compliance, you should update to Synergy/DE 10.3.3 (or 10.3.1b on HP-UX). These versions include security enhancements that keep Synergy/DE current with industry security standards. In 10.3.1b, the default encryption protocols used by xfServer, xfServerPlus, xfNetLink, and the HTTP document transport API were changed to TLS1.0/TLS1.1/TLS1.2. In addition, as of 10.3.1b, Synergy/DE no longer supports SSLv3 and lower protocols, which are no longer considered secure. Read more.

Important information if you are upgrading to Xamarin 4.1

Xamarin recently released Xamarin for Visual Studio 4.1. When you upgrade to this new release, be sure to also update to Synergy/DE 10.3.3 or the latest SDI developer build. Here’s a link to Xamarin’s release notes. Click here to go to our downloads page.

Deadline is looming for free Windows 10 upgrade

July 29 is the deadline for free upgrades to Windows 10. If you haven’t upgraded by that date, you will have to pay for the upgrade. For more information, including information on eligible editions, see Microsoft’s website (e.g., the Windows 10 FAQ  and Windows 10 Specifications).

Windows Update automatically downloads Windows 10 – what this means to Synergy/DE users

Microsoft has flagged Windows 10 as a “recommended” update, meaning that while it is still a free upgrade (prior to July 29), it will be automatically downloaded and installed on non-enterprise versions of Windows 7 and 8.1 PCs that are set to automatically install recommended patches. (After July 29, the automatic downloads will cease, and the upgrade will need to be purchased.) Since Synergy/DE 10.3.1b is the minimum Synergy version supported on Windows 10, Synergy/DE users need to have this version installed in order to use Synergy/DE on Windows 10. Read more.

Paving the way to Visual Studio

New features make it easier to move traditional code to Visual Studio
By Jeff Greene, Senior .NET Engineer

In the last issue of Synergy-e-News, we discussed how you can now use one IDE, Visual Studio, to develop both Synergy .NET and traditional Synergy applications. We also discussed how Synergy DBL Integration for Visual Studio (SDI) includes new templates that make it easy to create traditional Synergy projects from scratch. But how do you move existing Workbench projects and other traditional Synergy code into Visual Studio? Read more.

WebDocs updated and expanded

Interested in Synergy/DE’s new join feature? How about other 10.3.3 features such as inline lambdas or support for IPv6? You’ll now find information on these and other new features at docs.synergyde.com.
