TECH TIP: RESIZING AN ACTIVEX CONTROL IN A UI TOOLKIT WINDOW
Question:
Is it possible to resize an ActiveX control once it has been loaded
into a UI Toolkit window? When I try to do this, the window is resized,
but the ActiveX control doesn't change.
Answer:
If you're using UI Toolkit 7.5 or higher, you can use %AX_TKSINGLE
to automate this. This function creates a UI Toolkit container window,
creates an ActiveX container window, loads the ActiveX control,
and registers a UWNDEVENTS_METHOD set that includes %AX_TKEVENT_SIZE,
a method that automatically resizes the ActiveX control when the
UI Toolkit container window is resized. For more information, see
%AX_TKSINGLE in the "ActiveX Subroutines" chapter of the
UI Toolkit Reference Manual.

WHERE
IN THE WORLD IS SYNERGY/DE NOW?

Derby House Saddlery's equestrian mail order outlet
Derby House Saddlery is one of the largest equestrian mail order
outlets in Europe and aims to supply all riders, whether topflight
competitors or leisure riders, with a comprehensive selection of
clothing and equipment for all aspects of their equestrian pursuits.
With a wide range of products from many leading manufacturers, including
Jeffries, John Whitaker International, Mountain Horse, Weatherbeeta,
and Puffa, customers have plenty of choices.
Looking for
a complete inventory management tool, Derby House recently selected
a solution based on Gould Hall's Synergy/DE-based GH_Distributor
product. GH_Distributor includes modules for mail order, order processing,
stock control, warehousing, purchase order processing, financial
accounts, and CRM (Customer Relationship Management).
At the heart
of Derby House's solution is the brand-new CRM tool, which allows
staff at Derby House to perform all of the normal functions of a
standard CRM package, with the added advantage of being able to
access other areas of the business (actual order history, account
information, payment history, etc.). This tool will also capture
all customer activity for profiling and targeting purposes.
The solution
also includes GH_Viewer, a Visual Basic front-end tool that uses
SQL queries to access Synergy data via Synergy/DE xfODBC.
Another VB tool extracts Synergy data automatically and links to
Microsoft Office to create documents and reports that can then be
emailed, e-faxed, or printed.
And, as Derby
House will operate a number of retail outlets, Gould Hall has implemented
an EPOS (Electronic Point of Sale) system that is capable of being
used in a stand-alone manner for equestrian and county shows, with
updates to the main system being done via VPN connection to the
Web. The EPOS system has a Visual Basic front-end that accesses
the GH_Distributor logic and data via Synergy/DE xfServerPlus
and xfODBC. An e-commerce system that uses xfServerPlus
will complete the picture, enabling customers to browse the Web
shop to view products, check stock and availability, monitor prices,
and order products 24 hours per day.
Future plans
also include the installation of Gould Hall's "Catalogue Management"
software, which uses xfServerPlus to update the printed catalogue
in QuarkXPressTM, the online catalogue
pages on the Web, and the product details stored in the back-office
Synergy data files.
