SUPPORT TECH TIP: Setting the file fill density using isutl

Question:
I want to use the density option with isutl, but I'm doing something wrong. What is the correct syntax for this option, and how can I verify that the index has been packed?

Answer:
The density option -p is a reload option, so the -r option is also required. The correct syntax is

isutl -r -p density filename

where density is the percentage to which the index blocks for each defined key should be packed and filename is the name of the ISAM file whose index structure you want to reload.

The valid value range for density is 50 - 100. When -p is not specified, isutl packs indices to 80%.

For example,

isutl -r -p 85 customer

Note: The -p option causes the indices to be packed to the specified density; it does not set or alter the DENSITY option defined in the file. You can permanently change the packing density by using
the -qfile=density=density option, where density is the density percentage.

To verify the density of the index, use isutl -v.

For more information about isutl and all of its options, see the "Synergy DBMS" chapter of your Synergy Language Reference Manual.

WHERE IN THE WORLD IS SYNERGY/DE NOW?
Helping Floral Supply Syndicate customers brighten the world with flowers

Have you sent flowers recently? If the recipient knew they were from you, you might have Synergy/DE customer Floral Supply Syndicate to thank.

Floral Supply Syndicate (FSS) started over 60 years ago offering a complete line of floral supplies to the retail florist—supplies including vases, floraphane wrap, and the all-important enclosure cards. Today, they have expanded their product line to include a wide selection of craft materials, decorative packaging items, fancy ribbons, and an extensive line of holiday merchandise. Their customers include stores such as Safeway and Albertsons, and span a wide variety of industries including floral designers, craft merchandisers, interior design professionals, party planners, balloon designers, wedding planners, and gift basket/decorative packaging services, along with a whole host of related industries.

FSS uses an in-house Synergy application to manage many of its core business functions, including order entry, accounts receivable, general ledger, and inventory control. Future plans include incorporating xfServerPlus technology to streamline their online ordering processes, and using the Synergy XML API to interface with www.ups.com for package tracking and time in transit.

"Given the high volume of shipments we send on a daily basis, being able to integrate in real-time with companies such as UPS will be a huge benefit to us and to our customers," states Mike Davis, System Administrator for FSS. "I learned at the Synergex Success Partners Conference that Synergex now has the tools to make this possible."

To view thousands of floral items reflecting the latest industry trends, styles and colors, visit the FSS Web site at http://www.fss.com/.

ENSURE THE CONTINUED CONSIDERATION OF YOUR OLD SYNERGY/DE FEATURE REQUESTS

Synergex reviews the feature requests submitted to our product wish list as we plan each new release, and implements those requests that satisfy the release objectives. Over time, non-implemented requests can become "no longer appropriate," either because they are no longer important to the requesting customer, or because we determine that they will never meet the objectives of a release. We therefore periodically re-evaluate the feature request list to ensure that all open requests are still valid. We are now in the process of cleaning out the list. If a feature request is more than two years old, it will most likely be considered "no longer appropriate" and will be closed. The Support Tracker database in the Synergy/DE Resource Center (where feature requests are logged as WISH Trackers) will be updated accordingly by the end of May 2004. If you submitted any feature requests prior to 2002 that you would like us to continue to consider, please resubmit them at this time

(Attention HelpDesk Support customers: After clicking on this link, log into the Resource Center. You'll then be redirected to the feature request form.)
