SYNERGEX SUCCESS PARTNERS CONFERENCE 2004: A SUCCESSFUL TOUR

“SPC 2004 was a well prepared, well presented review of what Synergex has to offer. Our company learned about many features that we never realized existed. Not only did Synergex talk about these features but they demonstrated them in a working environment.”

Bill Tufarelli
PaceJet Logistics

“Over the last 2 to 4 years, I have seen a vast improvement in the quality of the product and the quality of the support provided by Synergex. Based on comments of the developers and customer support, I can see they are in-line to really take this product to the next level for the future. This new level of quality and service has helped us in turn be a better service provider in our industry.”

Tom Scaff
Jack Henry

SPC 2004 concluded on March 19, following an action-packed four-city tour. During each of the two-day conferences, customers experienced emerging technologies, such as XML, Web services, and Microsoft .NET, and got an overview of the complete Synergy/DE product line, including the new Java connection pooling, xfServerPlus performance enhancements, client/server debugging, and more. Attendees also learned about Synergex’s future plans, such as those for Microsoft .NET and object-oriented language extensions, and got plenty of opportunities for one-on-one discussions and networking with Synergy developers and other Synergex staff.

“These sessions will assist your company in moving into the 21st Century. Being able to discuss your individual needs with the people that develop the runtime, compilers, etc., is invaluable. You will learn more from these people than you anticipate!”

David Weseloh
Vision Data Equipment Corporation

Thank you to everyone who attended SPC 2004. We look forward to seeing all of you, including those who couldn’t make it this year, at SPC 2005.

SUPPORT TECH TIP: DOES SYNERGY/DE SUPPORT CLUSTERS?
Synergy/DE is not intrinsically cluster aware. However, Synergy/DE can operate in clusters on OpenVMS. And on Windows and Unix systems that support clustering, Synergy/DE can operate in a failover cluster as long as Synergy/DE is installed and licensed on each cluster node, and as long as one cluster node is a hot standby server.

In addition, xfServer clients can connect to a server cluster (using an IP address) and can be programmed to detect breaks and automatically reconnect to the cluster after a short delay.

WHERE IN THE WORLD IS SYNERGY/DE NOW?
Helping the Center for the Disabled provide quality care

For more than 60 years, individuals with disabilities and their families have been able to turn to the Center for the Disabled when seeking high quality care. Founded as a private school for children with cerebral palsy in 1942, the Center today employs a staff of over 2,000 at 65 locations and reaches out across New York to 30 counties, as well as to several neighboring states, offering care seldom found elsewhere. The Center emphasizes the health and well-being of each individual and remains committed to an independent lifestyle, rich with opportunities.

The Center uses Synergy/DE-based health care information systems and financial applications that were developed in-house to manage day-to-day operations. The applications include finance, billing, budgeting, inventory, patient registration, medical records, administration, health services, and facilities management. Approximately 1,500 Center employees use these Synergy/DE-based applications.

In January 2004, the Center successfully completed the migration of all of their legacy VAX DIBOL applications to an OpenVMS Alpha system running Synergy/DE 8.1.

“The most compelling reason for choosing Synergy/DE was its compatibility with our DIBOL code,” said Elliot Wilson, MIS Director at the Center. “We have a relatively small IT department and a large number of applications. The ability to preserve the investment in our existing applications while moving into a modern environment seemed to make the most sense. Additionally, there are many new features in Synergy/DE that we look forward to experimenting with in order to improve our application set.”

Due to the amount of code the Center ported to Synergy/DE, their focus has been to preserve the functionality of the DIBOL applications in Synergy/DE. The Center’s next phase will be to incorporate new Synergy/DE features.

“Our users are thrilled that processes run ten times faster than before the migration,” comments Wilson. “Everyone is more than pleased with the final result.”
