SUPPORT TECH TIP: OBTAINING LICENSING INFORMATION PROGRAMMATICALLY
Question:
How do I programmatically get information on a Synergy license?

Answer:
On Windows and Unix, the lmu utility provides information on which licenses are configured, how many are configured, and how many are currently checked out. On OpenVMS, you can get this information with the "show license /usage" command.

To programmatically get this information from lmu or with “show license /usage,” open a pipe to the command and read the information in the channel. For example, on Windows, use the following OPEN command:

  open(chan, I, "|lmu")

On Unix (because the lm directory is not normally in your path by
default), use

  open(chan, I, "|$SDE/lm/lmu")

On OpenVMS, use

  open(chan, I, "|show license /usage")

The channel chan now contains the output of lmu and can be read into an array. Once the licensing information is assigned to variables, you can use it however you like.
