Object Support Ready for Alpha Testers
As previously announced, Synergy/DE 8.1 will introduce a powerful new model for writing Synergy software: Synergy objects. These objects will be supported with a set of extensions to Synergy Language that allow classes and objects to be declared and manipulated within the Synergy/DE environment. An alpha test for the object support will coincide with the 7.5.3 beta test, starting on August 12. If you are interested in evaluating Synergy object support, please let us know. New Web-Enabled Software Puts Global Beverage Group Back in Marketplace Forefront
Synergex announced that customer Global Beverage Group (GBG) has released the Web version of their flagship Supply Chain Executive (SCE) application. With a customer base of beverage wholesalers including Pepsi Americas, Viking Coca-Cola, Coors Distributing Company, and Tropicana, GBG's updated software provides customers with a complete online order entry system that drastically streamlines the entire order-to-cash cycle.

Global Beverage Group's SCE Suite, based on Synergy/DE, is composed of tightly integrated components that can be tailored to handle a wide range of operations for companies in the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industry. With the updated software, companies can now complete orders (including making payments with a credit card), send Adobe® Acrobat® PDF invoices, view customers' payment forms, and view and print past statements—all online and in real-time. Bob Ballantyne, GBG's Vice President of Application Services, anticipates upgrading at least half of his current customer base to the new Web-enabled product. “By Web-enabling our product, our customers feel we have breathed new life into the system, which allows them to continue using it rather than being forced in other directions,” states Ballantyne.

Support Tech Tip: Displaying a .JPEG File as Background in an Application

Question: How do we display a .JPEG file as the background in our main Synergy/DE Windows application?

Answer:

Create an ActiveX control using Visual Basic with an embedded image control,

or

Use a DLL routine written in C. Although this approach gives greater performance and control over how the image is displayed, support for each image format must be programmed independently.

Synergy/DE Powers Applications Around the Globe ... from Afghanistan to America Samoa
Approximately 30 percent of Synergy installations are outside of the United States. Here are two examples … Laptops loaded with C.I.C.T. Solutions' Synergy/DE-based Business Processes System (BPS) software recently accompanied the Royal Marechaussee (Dutch Military Police) to Afghanistan. With over 240 Dutch Military soldiers now stationed in Afghanistan, the Royal Marechaussee act as a police force to maintain law and order in the Dutch camps. They use BPS to track and report on everything from suspect statements and stolen goods, to military protocols. “We have so much flexibility with BPS," raves Louw Hummeling with Royal Marechaussee. “We plan to start sending these laptops on all of our national and international engagements.”

Across the world, Synergy/DE powers the accounting software of American Samoa's only computer/data processing service bureau, Samoa Systems. With customers including Chicken of the Sea, Samoa Systems produces 75 percent of the payroll checks for the territory's private sector—about 12,000 people. "We're Synergy now and later," attests Samoa Systems' Jane Hyman, who likes the freedom Synergy/DE provides to program to her clients' unique needs. "We're finance across the board—that's why Synergy/DE works for us. We're part of the United States, yet not completely homogenous with U.S. tax codes. So we take the Synergex features and customize them to make our pieces fit."
